solar panels

I'm all for solar panels there is so much free space that can be used, every roof in the Island if suitable should be covered in solar panels. We need a Government incentive scheme to encourage and assist homeowners and landlords also Jersey Electric could own panels then rent roof space as another option for ppl who can't afford to buy their own panels! Every new build especially Andium homes should include solar panels Jersey is so behind in this arena. Yes we know we have a supply from France which is provided by hydro or nuclear energy but the cable from Jersey to France must cost a fortune, we need to be self sufficient solar panels would give that to us! A Wind farm too if required Jersey is a windy place as well as a sunny place.

If the government really cared for the environment this would of been resolved years ago!

Why the contribution is important

Solar panels are expensive initially but are coming down in price all the time its a great green investment for ppl with spare cash just need to look at what's happening in China and Indian. The savings in electricity bills is amazing plenty of examples online

We have solar panels, and they are brilliant. However, the initial cost is quite high. We estimate that they should pay for themselves within 5 to 6 years. They will carry on giving us free electricity for another 14 to 15 years after that. For those householders who would like to install panels, but cannot afford the initial outlay, an interest free loan scheme provided by the Government, to be repaid from the savings made over, say, 6 years, would be a great incentive.
