Only on a Sunday
The very recently published Dasgupta review into the economics of biodiversity has a short phrase in the preface
"We may have increasingly queried the absence of Nature from official conceptions
of economic possibilities, but the worry has been left for Sundays. On week-days, our thinking
has remained as usual"
Why the contribution is important
I think that this sums up Jersey's policy to date in regards to the environment (and to be fair Jersey isn't alone). There's talk, some action but Monday to Friday is business as usual.
We need to see a shift in government attitudes and policies that include environmental responsibility in all areas of decision making. As the Dasgupta review clearly states, we are not separate from but deeply embedded in nature.
