Make free bus travel for all.

This could be paid for by a significant increase in car parking charges for all cars including electric.  A tax on private car parking spaces would raise further funds.

Why the contribution is important

It's a quick easy fix.

Absolutely agree. Why do OAPs benefit from free bus passes, but children trying to get to and from school have to suffer those costs.

These services could easily be covered by the tax levied on corporate parking spaces within the St Helier ring road. The tax could be on the corporate.

Even as a trial this could be done for one year to see what different it makes to the morning traffic and the pollution levels around schools. AirSensa monitors have been placed at all schools (bar one) and we are awaiting the calibration of the sensors. Providing a more sustainable mode of transport foor school children will certainly reduce car traffic.

It's been done in Luxembourg - there's no reason it can't be done here (we're even more of a tax haven than Luxembourg). Yet the States can't even introduce free bus travel for kids! The school buses at the very least should be free if we want to reduce the school traffic.
