Reduce road transport carbon emissions. What more can JE do to help?

With road transport accounting for around a third of Jersey’s current emissions, it's an obvious area to reduce carbon.

Working together, we need to do more to reduce emissions from road transport and help Jersey to tackle the Climate Emergency.

Why the contribution is important

Lack of charging infrastructure was cited as a barrier to Electric Vehicle (EV) uptake a few years ago. JE listened and proactively invested to provide Jersey with an extensive network of Evolve EV public charging bays.

We would be delighted to invest further and encourage even greater use of electric transport to reduce emissions. What more can we do to help?

    Ban petrol/diesel cars.

Offer subsidies and a free installation service that is easily accessible for all homes to have EV charging points. Require all new developments to have 100% EV charging parking spaces and all house sales must only be permitted of homes with EV charging (i.e. you can't sell until you've upgraded).

Remove any planning requirements to install solar panels on roofs (except on Listed buidlings) and to install EV charging points.

All the car parks should be upgraded to have more EV charging points.

I know this isn't JEC's perogative, but temporarily the Inner Road should be restricted to EVs and buses at peak times to allow people to bypass traffic. As the number of EVs increases, this could be changed to the right lane of the Avenue.

Thank you for your ideas @Jerriaisjanne.

While it's Government's role to consider measures such as housing regulations and potential changes to planning or transport policy, we're here to help Islanders who want to install EV chargers.

Cutting greenhouse gas emissions from transport is one of the most significant areas Jersey can focus on to help tackle the Climate Emergency.

We're here to help and have a free advisory service if you would like to get in touch?
